Brewery goes from Fort Collins basement to national distirbution
At Denverâs newest hotel, guests are handed a taster of New Belgium beer when they check in. Beer flights are available via room service.
A ride up the elevator at The Source Hotel leads to New Belgiumâs new rooftop taproom, The Woods. Decorated in wooden barrels, The Woods includes a pristine patio view of both mountain ranges and the Denver city skyline.
The 3330 Brighton Blvd. development opens to the public Saturday. The space also features a barbecue restaurant called Smok and a Middle Eastern- themed eatery called Safta. As the location's house brewery, New Belgium keeps both spots heavily stocked with beers.
âThis project for us was really interesting,â said Kim Jordan, New Belgium co-founder and chair of the board, while toasting at a preview party Thursday night. âWe could bring our passion for brewing beer and partner with people doing interesting things.â

New Belgium has supplied the opening with beers made on its 15-barrel pilot system in Fort Collins. A new 10-barrel brewing system is being assembled at the Denver location and is expected to be functional within a few weeks.

New Belgium promoted brewer Geoff Wenzel to lead brewing in Denver. Heâs been with the craft brewery since 2014, previously working in the Fort Collins brewery's wood cellar.
Wenzel has spent the past year devel oping recipes for Denver, testing many brews in the Fort Collins taproom.
The taps at The Woods will rotate out frequently. Sour and barrel-aged beers will be heavily emphasized.
âThis small brewery gives us an opportunity to really be nimble with our creativity,â said Wenzel, a New York native who has been working in breweries since he was 18. âIt really is an unbelievable opportunity for me to experiment as a brewer.â
The Woods is also a full-service restaurant offering breakfast, lunch, dinner and cocktails.
The Source Hotel has 100 rooms and a 12-vendor market.
New Belgium has brewed in Fort Collins since 1991 and also has a hub at the Denver International Airport, a porch in the Colorado State University football stadium in Fort Collins and an East Coast brewery in Asheville, North Carolina.
Fellow Fort Collins craft brewer Odell Brewing also opened a Denver brewery in June.
