Eden Hazard: Belgium's 'golden generation' is desperate to deliver
Belgium's captain and talisman, Eden Hazard, has likened Roberto MartÃnezâs squad to Englandâs famed âgolden generationâ of players but believes his team-mates can deliver in Russia when the World Cup begins next week.
Hazard scored and starred in Belgiumâs 3-0 warm-up win against Egypt in Brussels on Wednesday night and, ahead of playing England in their final World Cup group game later this month, knows that he is no longer playing for a team of âdark horsesâ or underdogs.
âWe know what we are,â said Hazard. âWe are good players, we all play in the big games in England, in Italy and in Spain, so we know what to do. The golden generation you had in England, 10 years or 15 years ago, won nothing. Now I think the fans, journalists, all of Belgium, the country just want to win something. We have a golden generation. We are in preparation but we will be ready for the World Cup.â
Asked whether England were still favourites in a match against Belgium, Hazard said: âNow it is different. I think we are quite the same - it is 50-50 - England have a lot of good players, we also have good players so we will see.â
Martinez admitted that he had been extremely concerned during Wednesdayâs match following several heavy tackles on Hazard but the Chelsea winger later revealed that Egyptâs approach had actually helped him.Source: Google News Belgium | Netizen 24 Belgium
